Upgrading wordpress question

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

I'm upgrading my wordpress installation.
I get it for the most part except one thing.
It says to back up files.
All my wordpress files are in a folder titled www.
There are however three other folders outside of that.
Two public_html folders which contain the same stuff as is in the www folder and a public_ftp folder. They look like duplicates or something. Do I delete these as well or leave them?

Tumblr in a sub-domain

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

I want to put my tumblr in a sub-domain, but I seem to suck when it comes to understanding DNS.

I'm sure its something straightforward, but I'm failing to make it work and I guess if you don't ask you don't learn.

The domain is registered with Media Temple (As registrar and host) and I have a dedicated virtual server with Plesk.

Are people getting sneaky with RSS?

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

In the last couple days I've visited a couple blogs that I've never been to before. I have FF set up so that if I click on an RSS link it tells Vienna (my feedreader) to subscribe to the feed. I've noticed that a few of the new sites I've visited recently have mysteriously ended up in my reader.

I'm not sure if I'm accidentally clicking a feed link or if there's some behind the scenes shenanigans going on.

Thoughts?

anyone have a problem with the sphere plug-in

Friday, July 13th, 2007

For some reason I couldn't get to my site, the bottom of the browser kept saying something about sphere - like it was loading sphere info.

I've had the plug-in for some time and never had this issue but I turned the plug-in off and everything is back to normal.

Anyone else have this problem?

It's not a big deal just curious.

CSS3.com’s new style

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

CSS3.com has a new site and blog style. The site is much easier to read and they added some examples too. Not the best CSS reference guide, but a pretty good one.

Need a good freelancer website

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

I...okay, I'll be honest. I'm looking to make some money so I can go out and blow it on a DS Lite and flash kit. :P

I've looked into two freelance websites; GetAFreelancer and CSSBeauty's "Monster" section. The problem with GetAFreelancer is that it's not exactly equal-opportunity. They allow you to pay $12 to have a little orange circle appear next to your name, and people who have them get (and they say this on the site) around 75% of all projects.

The problem with CSSBeaty is that many of them are asking for college degrees, resumes etc. Which is all understandable, but I'm 16 so one of them isn't possible, and I don't quite have a resume (although I do have things to show). Other companies are either asking you to travel or to join their team.

I'm very good with PHP, SQL, HTML, CSS JavaScript, AJAX utilization, and I'm learning Ruby on Rails rather quickly. But I can't find any good sites that actually give me a chance to get a job there. Did I miss any major sites?
