CAN-SPAM: Quick Refresher
The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing) establishes requirements for those who send commercial email. It spells out penalties for spammers and companies who violate the Act while advertising products in spam, and gives consumers the right to ask emailers to stop spamming them. The Federal Trade Commission is authorized to enforce the CAN-SPAM Act, which also gives the Department of Justice the authority to enforce criminal sanctions. There are four main points to the law.
